The strange tale of Doc Martin...

  • Nov. 21st, 2009 at 9:34 PM
Way back when the ITV television series Doc Martin began airing on the ABC in 2005, I frowned at the screen and said " ...haven't I seen this before?"

The answer, I discovered a month or so ago was, "well, sort of."

'Doc Martin' started out as a couple of Sky Television telemovies based on a character Martin Clunes played in the film Saving Grace - Doctor Martin Bamford. The films were, 'Doc Martin' and 'Doc Martin and the Legend of the Cloutie'. Sky Pictures was planning on making six telemovies, however they folded after the first two. Martin Clunes took the idea to ITV, at which point the television series was commissioned --- but with not without significant changes.

What I find fascinating about this story is how the narrative and the character of Martin changed, and how I found myself responding when I finally caught up (presumably again) with the original Sky Television films.

More Cthulhu Crafting

  • Nov. 20th, 2009 at 10:31 PM
A follow-up to my previous posts. I realized that I need more than one little cthulhu so I made patterns for a shoggoth and a deep one, too.
Though I used google image search for the pics, I noticed afterwards by sheer coincidence both of these pictures came from this site. May have to add another pattern for the cute little cultists.

Anyways, I hope someone else gets good use of these. :-)
Cross stitch, embroidery, whatever, have fun.

For the shoggoth, the teeth need some work but this is a start. I didn't do the outline right but you get the idea, black instead of reddish.

Dagon (or however you spell it) The dude that nearly killed everyone in the party in innsmuth and who spawned my GM's favorite quote "I'm never going to Innsmuth again unless I'm someone else"
I left the outline off of this one since it looked like crap in the previous pattern.
edit I messed up the grid! one of the darker blocks is 6x5 - oops

Bite me (and not in the good way)

  • Nov. 20th, 2009 at 9:25 PM
I'm tired of all the Twilight and New Moon stuff.

Can we not hear about Robert, Kristin and Taylor for two seconds? Jesus. It almost makes me wish for Jon and Kate again. Almost.

Cthulhu crafting

  • Nov. 20th, 2009 at 6:12 PM
For those who like to do geeky embroidery, I couldn't find a cross stitch pattern to make a little cthulhu.
I made this and then thought perhaps others would like this.
I thought I'd share.

I didn't outline the whole thing on the pattern because it got too cluttery, you get the point though.
I used orange for details because I have bad eyes.
It stands for black.
